Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when a pair of track officials crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident occurred on the third rotation when track officials were seen on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an premature pit stop to change his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two individuals running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication at some point but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track safety personnel can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is currently investigating the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was informed that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, track officials were informed and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy personnel were canceled and a double yellow flag was shown in that section"

"We are still investigating what occurred following that moment"
